Abstract

This image is unique for several reasons. First, it is dated to the 14th century making it one of the earliest known depictions of a musical triangle. Second, there are two triangles shown, which is quite rare. Furthermore, the shape of the triangles are slightly curved and slightly trapezoidal. Also, rather then having jingling rings, there are pellet bells hanging from the instrument. Lastly, a hammer-like beater is used for striking.
