Abstract

In a biblical scene from the book of Judges, Jephthah's daughter comes out to greet her triumphant warrior father, only to realize that he has promised to sacrifice to God, whatever comes out of his house to meet him when he returns. Every aspect of this depiction is interesting. The underhanded method of holding the instrument is unique. The extended corner of the instrument is distinctive. The triangle beater is peculiar in that is has a split end. The instrument is played in a left-handed fashion.
